Cozzi's Classics: The Managers Part 1

Alan Cozzi has been Watford FC's full-time photographer since 1997, capturing iconic and historic moments at the club through the lens of his camera.

Graham Taylor

“That was GT's last appearance as a manager at Vicarage Road against Tranmere. Even when the whole thing is about him, when everyone is making a fuss about him, he still makes time to talk to Tommy Mooney’s kids. That sums him up. The day was all about him but he still didn’t want it to be about him.”

Gianluca Vialli

“This was a strange one as the club announced he was the new manager when Taylor was still in charge and he was still sitting around being interviewed by journalists yards from where this was happening. It’s black and white, half-lit and sums up his reign as it did end up being quite dark."

"Players wearing Italian suits for a photocall typified his reign. It wasn't about substance – it was more about style."

Ray Lewington

“I'm not sure what Ray is wearing here – it looks like a baby grow! The players have also got their socks up which is reflective of the time and the standards, I guess. That picture was taken between the two League Cup games against Liverpool and that run was the highlight of his period.”

“This was taken on his appointment and was just an utter contrast to the circus around Vialli's appointment the year before. I think one photographer, which was me, and two journalists turned up for Lewington whereas the world and his wife were there for Vialli.”
